Information & Communication Technology in Business BTT1OE
This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website design skills. A variety of programs and activities will be introduced such as Flash and Adobe that will allow students to experiment with learned concepts. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology. Students will learn effective electronic research tools, search techniques and communication skills that they can use in all subject areas and in their everyday lives.

Introduction to Business BBI2OE
This course introduces students to the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of business including accounting, marketing, information and communication technology, human resources, and the importance of ethics and social responsibility. Class activities may include investing in stock market competitions, creating board games, inventing and advertising products, designing effective store promotions, using student interests and skills to make entrepreneurial business opportunities, learning how to increase income and spend money wisely. Students will develop the business knowledge and skills they will need to use in their every day lives. This course is an excellent foundation for further studies in the Business & Computer Studies program and entry into the Business – Specialist High Skills Major Program.

Financial Accounting Fundamentals BAF3ME
This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting. Activities may include monopoly accounting, investigating accounting scandals, and exploring career opportunities in business such as CMA, CA and CGA designations. Students will acquire an understanding of accounting for a service and a merchandising business, accounting software, and current issues and ethics in accounting. Students will develop financial analysis and decision-making skills that will prepare them for post-secondary studies and/or career opportunities in business.

Entrepreneurship: The Venture BDI3CE
This course prepares students to start a business in their own area of interest and expertise either now or in the future. Students will create a venture plan for a summer business or a business to be started after high school or post-secondary studies. It focuses on ways in which entrepreneurs recognize opportunities, generate ideas, and organize resources to plan successful ventures that enable them to achieve their goals. Through hands-on experiences, students will have opportunities to develop the values, traits, and skills most often associated with successful entrepreneurs.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of product marketing, which includes the marketing of goods, services, and events. Students will examine how trends, issues, global economic changes, and information technology influence consumer buying habits. This course focuses on marketing activities in the retail and service sectors. This course prepares students for the digital environment. Using a hands-on approach, students will further develop information and communication technology skills through the use of common business software applications. Introduction to Computer Science ICS3UE
This course introduces students to computer science. Students will design software independently and as part of a team, using industry-standard programming tools and applying the software development life-cycle model. They will also explore environmental and ergonomic issues, emerging research in computer science, and global career trends in computer-related fields.

This course enables students to further develop knowledge and skills in computer science. Students will use modular design principles to create complex and fully documented programs, according to industry standards. Student teams will manage a large software development project, from planning through to project review. Students will also analyse algorithms for effectiveness. They will investigate ethical issues in computing and further explore environmental issues, emerging technologies, areas of research in computer science, and careers in the field.

This course focuses on the operations of a school store and marketing activities for retail and service sectors. Information Technology Technicial Level 1 Apprenticeship YMK4TE
This is an online course which consists of a core component plus a specialization in either Hardware or Networks. Intensive on-the-job training occurs at the same time. This level 1 apprenticeship includes 360 hours of online training that is delivered via the Internet, the TLM online learning system, and CD-ROM courseware. Students need to already possess a high degree of computer literacy.
