South Dakota Selects Career Cruising for Portfolio Development System

We are extremely excited to announce that Career Cruising has been selected to develop “My Portfolio”, a customized Portfolio Development System for South Dakota. This tool will be part of the My Life suite of services and resources for students and parents produced by the South Dakota Department of Education.

Sponsored by EAC (Education Assistance Corporation), the new portfolio tool for students will include access to comprehensive career and education information. It will also allow students to document the skills, extracurricular activities, experiences, and achievements that will help them meet their career and educational goals. These web-enabled portfolios will be available to students, teachers, counselors, and parents 24x7, and remain accessible to students after graduation.

My Portfolio will also include a Personal Learning Plan for each student, a central part of ensuring that students are prepared to meet the demands of their career goals. These plans facilitate high school course selection based on students’ career, cluster, and pathway interests, using South Dakota’s Programs of Study. The Personal Learning Plan tool will be available to students in January 2009. Students will have access to the internationally acclaimed Career Matchmaker interest assessment and My Skills self-assessment skills inventory immediately. In Fall 2009, an Aptitude Profiler will be integrated with Career Matchmaker.

We look forward to working with the South Dakota Department of Education and applying our knowledge and experience in the area of online portfolio development. The initial launch of the My Portfolio system is scheduled for October 2008 with an extensive training program for educators across the state.
