HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING EDUCATION (female) PPL1OF
This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles,ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety and injury prevention. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication, and social skills. This course emphasizes students’ daily participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living and encourages respect for the dignity and welfare of self and others and promotes the living of gospel values.

Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle through the investigation of personal safety/injury prevention, healthy sexuality, and mental health. Students will develop a commitment to lifelong participation in enjoyable physical activity. Students are asked to examine, evaluate and apply knowledge to influence others in a positive Christian way for the development of a just and compassionate society.

NUTRITION AND HEALTH FOR LIFE PPZ3O1
This course helps students develop a personalized approach to healthy living. Students will examine the factors that affect their own health and the health of individuals as members of the community.They will learn about the components of the Vitality approach to healthy living – an initiative that promotes healthy eating, an active lifestyle, and a positive self-image. Throughout this course, students will develop the skills necessary to take charge of and improve their own health, as well as to encourage others to lead healthy lives. This course provides an opportunity for teachers and students to integrate the body, mind, and spirit in light of Catholic faith development.

EXERCISE SCIENCE PSE4U1
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration. This course helps students to meet Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each person to become a self-directed, responsible, life long learner who participates in leisure and fitness activities for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

PERSONAL AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES (female) PAF4OF
This course is an extension to the grade 11 fitness class. Emphasis will be placed on developing life long fitness goals and the study of various women’s health issues such as; healthy dieting trends, detoxifying, organic vs processed food, calorie burning thermogenics among others. Students will be exposed to the latest fitness trends in; pilates, tai chi, yoga, various resistance and cardio respiratory training while developing personalized fitness programs. Students will delve into personal study on responsible relationships, osteoporosis, examining the quality of fitness clubs, while testing their overall health. Study and stay fit in grade 12. This course provides an opportunity for teachers and students to integrate the body, mind, and spirit in light of Catholic faith development.

PERSONAL AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES (male) PAF4OM
This course is an extension to the grade 11 fitness class. Emphasis will be placed on developing personalized fitness programs to meet stated fitness goals. Students will explore various men’s health issues such as; healthy dieting trends specific to muscle development and overall health, detoxifying, steroid and drug awareness, calorie burning thermogenics among others. Students will be exposed to the latest fitness trends in pilates, plyometrics, circuit - resistance training among others. Concentration can be placed on sport specific programs for the goal oriented student athlete including the psychology of team and individual sport. Training safely is always stressed and examined. Study and develop to your full athletic/fitness potential in grade 12. This course provides an opportunity for teachers and students to integrate the body, mind, and spirit in light of Catholic faith development.

This course focuses on the development of a personalized approach to healthy active living through participation in a variety of sports and recreational activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will develop and implement personal physical fitness plans. In addition, they will be given opportunities to refine their decisionmaking, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills, with a view to enhancing their mental health and their relationships with others. This course helps students to meet Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each person to become a self-directed, responsible, life long learner who participates in leisure and fitness activities for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

RECREATION AND FITNESS LEADERSHIP PLF4C1
This course focuses on the development of leadership and coordination skills related to recreational activities. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan, organize, and implement recreational events. They will also learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well-being, and personal safety to others through mentoring. The course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure, and fitness leadership. This course helps students to meet Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations by enabling each person to become a collaborative contributor who exercises Christian leadership in the achievement of individual and group goals. Note: Some activities will require nominal fees.
All candidates MUST present a letter of reference from a teacher in the Special Education department and undergo an interview process.
