FINANCIAL SECURITIES IDC4U1
This course will help students develop and consolidate the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Students will apply the principles and processes of inquiry and research to effectively use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources; to analyse historical innovations and exemplary research; and to investigate real-life situations and career opportunities in interdisciplinary endeavours. They will also assess their own cognitive and affective strategies, apply general skills in both familiar and new contexts, create innovative products, and communicate new knowledge. The Interdisciplinary course, Financial Securities, aims to develop the skills in order to become “InterPreneurs”, that is interdisciplinary Entrepreneurs, applying processes and problem-solving skills to the study of financial management, capital markets, and the ways in which capital is acquired.
Students will interconnect knowledge of English, Accounting, Economics, Law, Entrepreneurship and Media. Students will use diverse information skills, resources, and technologies to gather information related to a variety of Canadian and international financial institutions, investigate the conceptual and mathematical foundations of increasing net worth, and examine investments in the stock market (e.g. the risks and safeguards in stock trading, using stocks as investments, creating investment portfolios). Students will also analyse the social impact of personal and corporate investment decisions and will learn to solve problems using theoretical investigations, systems thinking approaches, and case studies.The key Catholic Graduate Expectations developed are those of an Effective Communicator, a Reflective and Creative Thinker, a Collaborative Contributor and ultimately a Responsible Citizen.

CREATIVE ADVERTISING IDC4U2
This course will help students develop and consolidate the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Students will apply the principles and processes of inquiry and research to effectively use a range of print, electronic, and mass media resources; to analyse historical innovations and exemplary research; and to investigate real-life situations and career opportunities in interdisciplinary endeavours. They will also assess their own cognitive and affective strategies, apply general skills in both familiar and new contexts, create innovative products, and communicate new knowledge.
Students develop strategic, creative thinking skills through a series of practical exercises. They use marketing concepts in the identification of target markets and consumer profiles. Students learn how consumers think and analyze the motivational drive behind consumer consumption. They study how to conduct thorough research to gain insight into products, companies and target markets. Students learn how to use artistic elements in design theory as it applies to print advertisement. They will also study copywriting and persuasive strategies necessary to survive in a creative marketplace. This course enables students to apply theory and practical skills and experience, by utilizing the creative aspects of advertising in their final culminating project. SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING IDC4O1
This course emphasizes the development of practical skills and knowledge to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline.Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research into contemporary issues, real-life situations, and careers, students will apply the principles and skills derived from the complementary subjects and disciplines studied, evaluate the reliability of information, and examine how information technology can be used safely, effectively, and legally.They will also learn how to select strategies to define problems, research alternative solutions, assess their thinking in reaching decisions, and adapt to change as they acquire new knowledge. This course explores the important role that sports and entertainment play in our modern economy. Using diverse resources and research methods, students will analyse the depiction of sports and entertainment in a variety of media. Students will obtain an understanding of business fundamentals and how to apply these fundamentals to sports and entertainment.
Students will cover the following topics: marketing essentials, marketing sports, products/services unique to sports and entertainment marketing, sports media, sales, visual merchandising, marketing entertainment, and legal issues concerning sports and entertainment.
