BEGINNER GUITAR AMG3O1
This course teaches the fundamentals of guitar playing. Students will: learn guitar chords, perform chord sequences, play melodies, and create their own pieces. Beyond playing, students will also explore guitar playing from the perspective of chord-theory: behind every moving piece of music, there is a sequence of chords that are responsible for the emotive response. Students will learn to use these sequences to create their own music, with intentional effects. A key component of the course is integrated learning. Students will learn the history of guitar, integrated with actual practice. Students will play what they learn. This course will also explore Catholic theology on music and the use of chord sequences in well known Catholic Hymns (and also examine popular songs that have borrowed these sequences to make “hit songs”).
