Music - Instrumental AMI1O1
Students do not require any experience in order to take music. We have a wide variety of band instruments to choose from, as well as extra-curricular opportunities. Students who take this course will also be completing an introductory unit on acoustic guitar. Students enrolled in the Music department are able to participate in a number of fun trips and events. This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life.

Music - Instrumental AMI2O1
Students enrolled in the Music department are able to participate in a number of fun trips and events. In Grade 10 music students will continue to focus on their primary band instrument and will also complete an introductory unit on steel drums. This course emphasizes the creation and performance at a level that is consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of conventions, practices, and terminology and apply the elements of music in a range of activities. They will also explore the function of music in society with reference to the self, communities and cultures. This focus course in music will provide students with the opportunity to learn to further develop their range, tone quality, projection, intonation and articulation.
COURSE NOTE: Grade 9 Music (AMI1O1) is recommended before this course.

Music - Jazz AMH3M1
This course develops students' artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of music and the preparation of music productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in contemporary popular styles. Independently and in groups, they will also plan, market, and produce music productions, making use of appropriate technology, and will evaluate the results.

This course explores Jazz improvisation, Jazz history, Jazz ear-training and Jazz performance. Approval must be given for keyboard, guitar or bass players.

This course develops students’ musical literacy through performance and the preparation and presentation of music productions. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

Music - Instrumental AMI4M1
This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
