Instrumental Music-Band (Beginner) AMI1OB
This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of the conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music, and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life.
COURSE NOTE: ****Students with 2 or more years of experience on a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument with the elementary school instrumental music program may go directly into the experienced grade 9 program- select AMI10E. See below. See Mr. Gaines or Mrs. Barber for more information.

Guitar Music AMG2O1
This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history. This is a beginner guitar class that focuses on chord playing and melody picking. You will need a guitar for home practice; school guitars are provided for in class use.

Guitar Music AMG3O1
The grade 11 guitar credit at E L Crossley is a continuation from the prerequisite (or equivalent) grade 10 beginner guitar class. We focus the performance on three main areas of study - Classical, Blues and Jazz are all introduced. Within each area there are solo and ensemble pieces for study and evaluation. There is a songwriting/composition unit, a history of the Blues unit and music theory becomes more advanced.

The grade 12 guitar credit at E L Crossley is an advanced class that has grade 11 (AMG3M) as a prerequisite. Students will encounter more complex classical and jazz performance pieces. They will perform several chamber concerts throughout the semester from the Rennaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary genres. These will include solo, duet, trio, quartet and full ensemble pieces. There continues to be composition/songwriting, theory, and jazz history in the class.

Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
COURSE NOTE: There are solo, ensemble (large and small), history, theory and ethnomusicology within this class.
