This course addresses knowledge and skills related to child growth and development from prenatal through school-age children. Students will become equipped with child development knowledge that can be used to promote the well-being and healthy development of children and to investigate careers related to the care and education of children.

COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH A COUNMA
This course prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a counseling and mental health career. Students explore the various mental illnesses and disorders, treatment options, and coping skills to deal with stress and crisis. Students are expected to apply knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations, and the implications of their actions.

Human Growth and Development is an examination of human development across the lifespan with emphasis upon research, theoretical perspectives, and common physical, cognitive, emotional and social developmental milestones. The course covers material that is generally taught in a post-secondary, one-semester introductory course in developmental psychology or human development.

INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING A INPREA
This laboratory-based course is a field-based internship that provides students with background knowledge of child and adolescent development as well as principles of effective teaching practices. Students will work under the joint direction and supervision of a teacher who has expertise in the areas of child development and educational methodology and an exemplary educator who is working in an instruction role in an elementary/middle/high school setting. Students will learn to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, develop materials for educational environments, assist with record keeping, and complete other responsibilities of teachers. Student must provide his/her own transportation.
COURSE NOTE: Students will be expected to join the TAFE $20 Dues.

PRACTICUM IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING A PRAEDA

Students will also gain an understanding of the basic knowledge and skills essential to careers within the education and training career cluster. Students will develop a graduation plan that leads to a specific career choice in the student’s interest area.
