GUIDANCE AND CAREER EDUCATION

The Guidance Department offers a variety of services for students, parents, and teachers.  Counsellors are assigned to all students and are available to assist with individual and group counselling and in making decisions about academic programs and career decisions.

*

Student Development – Counsellors assist students with secondary school course selection, information on Continuing Education programs, Independent Learning, study skills, tutoring and on post secondary education.  They also assist with support for improving student achievement.

*

Career Development – The Guidance Department cooperates with other departments in the delivery of career information.  Students are able to explore career information through a variety of software programs.  Career and educational focused curriculum is delivered to each grade.

*

Interpersonal Development – Counsellors are available to assist students with personal concerns and, when appropriate, with parental consent, may refer students and/or families to the York Catholic District School Board’s Support Services.  The Guidance Department, with the assistance of Chaplaincy and other departments, coordinates a variety of support groups for students; some examples of groups offered are drug and alcohol awareness and grief counselling.
