This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and injury prevention. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality, substance abuse, and social skills. Students will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting and communication skills.

Health and Leadership Through Sport IDP4U1
This course is looking for:
-Students who want to improve their leadership and presentation skills, and
-Students who enjoy planning and organizing events and experiences for others, and
-Students who can think outside of the “gym” box: Think curling, rock climbing, horseback riding, high ropes. Think “cooperative”, not competitive.
-Students who enjoy learning which happens outside of the classroom

In this course, students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan, organize, and implement recreational events. They will also learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well-being, and personal safety to others through mentoring. This course will also develop information-based knowledge and skills that prepare students for leadership roles outside of school. Students will focus on the use of technological resources and applications to plan, implement, communicate, and assess appropriate activities and programs in the local community and beyond.

This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on physical fitness. Students will develop individual fitness plans to improve or to maintain a high level of fitness. Regular work-outs will include an emphasis on weight training and cardiovascular training. This course will also focus on designing training programs for specific sport development - preseason, season and post-season training. In addition, students will be given opportunities to refine their decision-making, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills, with a view of enhancing their mental health and their relationships with others.

Introductory Kinesiology (formerly Exercise Science PSE4U1) PSK4U1
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, sports administration, medicine and nursing.
