Visual Arts I (Beginning) 54152X0
Art I is a basic introduction to the elements of art and an exploration of the design principles through the study of artists, major styles of art throughout history, art criticism, and a variety of hands-on experiences.

Ceramics I 54152X0C
Ceramics I will include creating projects using the basic clay techniques of hand building including slab work as well as pinch and coil methods. These methods will be used to create functional pottery and nonfunctional sculpture. A variety of under glazing and glazing techniques will be explored. Students will learn the basics of bisque and glaze firing in an electric kiln.

Graphic Design 54152X0GR
This course is a combination of classroom instruction, discussion of theory, and hands-on lab experience in order to gain a basic understanding of the multiple facets of the graphic arts. Students will engage in creating designs for businesses and advertising. The designs will include flyers, brochures, menus, business cards, screen printing for t-shirts, and much more. Students will use the Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop for half the work, the rest will be done by hand. Students will discuss various techniques of the graphic arts as well as focus on future career opportunities. Graphic Design is a course intended to blend creative expression with the practical functionality needed for an understanding of this expansive field.

Visual Arts II (Intermediate) 54162X0
Art II is a continuation of the study of art history and the elements and principles of design. Hands on projects will be the main focus of the class using a variety of art techniques and media to create 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional art projects. Higher order thinking skills will be emphasized as students will be required to make choices and explore creativity.

Sculpture 54202X0S
Sculpture class concentrates on the techniques and processes of three-dimensional materials and concepts beyond the realm of clay. Students will explore different forms of sculpture such as modeling, carving, assembly, casting, and installation sculpture. All students will have the opportunity to work with clay, plaster, stone, metal and various other materials. Historical and contemporary developments in sculpture are explored.

Photography 54152X0P
Photography is a black and white film photography class and is designed to acquaint students with techniques for taking good photographs and for learning darkroom procedures used in developing film and making prints. Techniques and darkroom procedures for developing and printing, as well as the use of photography for journalism, artistic expression, and advertising will be taught.

Ceramics II 54162X0C
Ceramics II introduces students to throwing on the pottery wheel and how to use wheel thrown pieces as a building block for functional and sculptural pieces. students will create work based on research, personal and global issues, and create collaborative pieces. Students will be introduced to new techniques such as glass melting and inlay.

Photography II 54162X0P
Photography II is a black and white 35 mm film photography class and is designed for students who wish to further develop their knowledge of and experience in photography. Students are expected to know basic darkroom techniques and be able to work independently. Experimental and advanced darkroom techniques are used in Photo II and some digital photography will be included. Students are strongly recommended to have SLR cameras.

Visual Arts III (Proficient) Honors 54175X0
Honors Art III is an advanced level course and involves more in depth knowledge of art processes, media and history, including an expanded use of vocabulary and terminology. A student should demonstrate creative thought processes through advanced research, analysis, reflection, application, and production.

Ceramics III-Honors 54175X0C
Emphasis is on continued experimentation with clay, glazes, techniques and materials. Students will learn more in-depth about the firing process and clay bodies as well as contemporary artists specifically relevant to their current work.

Visual Arts IV (Advanced) Honors 54185X0
Honors Visual Arts IV involves a more in-depth knowledge of art processes, media, history and the development of such as learned in Honors Art III. In addition, students are expected to become initiators of learning and accomplishment as well as demonstrate leadership and expertise in visual arts.

Ceramics IV-Honors 54185X0C
Ceramics IV is designed for the serious ceramic student who is self-guided and independent. Students design their own body of work based on their own personal aesthetics and research with a focus on incorporating all of their knowledge of clay techniques and processes.
