This course gives students the opportunity to explore their technical and compositional skills by applying the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. District of Niagara Academy for the Arts Program DNAArts
The District of Niagara Academy for the Arts (DNA Arts) program allows talented and committed Arts students to concentrate their studies in the Arts while also completing the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students take a minimum of two Arts credits per year and may obtain a DNA Arts Certificate upon completion of a total of at least eight credits in the Arts at graduation. Programs are professionally oriented and academically rigorous. Realistic career planning in the arts at college or university is the next step for most students. Available streams include Drama, Dance, Music, Musical Theatre, and Visual Arts.
COURSE NOTE: Application and audition/orientation required. For students entering Grade 9 or 10. If you are currently in Grade 8, fully completed application must accompany course selections. Applications available from elementary school Principal. For students currently in secondary school, applications will be provided at program orientation sessions after March Break. Students must also select at least two Arts courses according to their stream. Do not select if you are already in this program.

Students will use the critical analysis process when evaluating their own work and the work of others. The course may be delivered as a comprehensive program or through a program focused on a particular art form (e.g., photography, video, computer graphics, information design).

Students will produce a body of work demonstrating a personal approach. This focus course places emphasis on developing studio techniques through drawing and painting. Students will complete a portfolio of 12-15 artworks and participate in studio workshops designed to support further study at the post secondary level.
